Outdoor care

If you need cordylines for your outdoor then make sure you plant them in moist soil and place them in partial shade to full sun. The bright light will bring out the brightest colours in the foliage. Provide the plant with about 3 cm of water every week when there is not rain. The fact that this plant grows natural in rainy areas means you need to water it regularly. Beside this, cordylines are drought-tolerant, but if you want to them to stay beautiful and healthy do not allow the soil to become bone-dry. To keep the foliage dry, use soaker or hose to water the plant. If you use sprinkler, water early in the day so the foliage can dry until evening.

Fertilization is an important part of the process of growing healthy plants. The cordylines require fertilizer in every second month. Use a balanced granular fertilizer and apply about 60 grams of it in a dump soil and then water the plant immediately. If accidently you put some fertilizer on the leaves, make sure you rinse as soon as possible. To have your plant always looking neat remove the leaves who look older. When some leaves turn completely brown, remove them using garden scissors or shears.

Indoor care

If you want cordyline plants to beautify your indoor area then plant them in a potting mixture that holds moisture without remaining soggy. Choose a quality potting mixture for the best growth and use a good pot that comes with a drainage hole in the bottom. Feed the plant with a weak solution of a water-soluble fertilizer. Mix one tablespoon of fertilizer in four liters of water and apply the solution on every month during the summer and spring.

When you note that one centimeter of the soil feels dry, your cordylines need watering. Water the plant until the water comes through the drainage hole. Allow the pot to drain and the pour out the water. Also, you can place the pot in a saucer of water and allow the soil to absorb water. In both ways, do not allow the bottom of the pot to stand in water.
